Elizabethtown

Claire Colburn: Do you ever just think I’m fooling everybody?
Drew Baylor: You have no idea.

Elizabethtown is a 2005 independent comedy-drama that I absolutely love!  It is in the same mold of Garden State and 500 Days of Summer.  Where a normal guy meets and falls in love with a quirky female played by an excellent actress.

Elizabethtown stars Orlando Bloom as Drew Baylor, a down on his luck, suicidal business man who has to fly to Elizabethtown Kentucky due to the death of his father.  While on his way there, he meets the female lead, Claire Colburn, played by the lovely and ever-so-talented Kirsten Dunst.  The thing I love about this movie, is how you genuinely find yourself rooting for Drew and Claire to end up together, and the movie teases it throughout the entire movie perfectly.

I’m sure you can see where this movie is headed, but it is not headed in the typical Rom-Com direction.  There is definitely more to this movie then just romantic comedy.  If you’re looking for a cheesy Rom-Com, then this movie is not for you.  Yes, there is a love story int his movie (all good stories at their core are indeed love stories), but there is more to it.  This film deals with expectations, failures, and how to deal with your life when it’s just not going the way you want it to.

All in all, this movie probably makes my top 15 all time favorites list.  I assign this feature film a 93% on my completely arbitrary grading scale.  In other words, check this out!!
