I’m seriously thinking about joining the peace corps after college. I think it would be a wonderful experience and it would look great on my resume if I pursue a job in social work. And I would get the change to change lives.
But the the thought of spending more then two years away from home, and not just like my house, but away from everything I ever cared about. possibly thousands of miles away from anyone that speaks my same language. It’s scary. 27 months is a long time. But what would I really miss?
This quote inspires me to join.
“Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. […] And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage. […] No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild”

Thoughts? Opinions? If anyone served as a volunteer or knew someone who did, I would love to talk about it! :]
